DAYTONA BEACH, FL-- ODU senior Samantha Morrell (North Kingstown, RI>) stayed consistent for 54 holes to help lead the Lady Monarchs to the LPGA Xavier Invitational Title by six strokes. ODU shot a tournament best 304 in the final round to beat out Florida Gulf Coast University.

Morrell shot 75-75-75=225 to finish second one stroke behind Lacey Fears of Mercer, while junior Elizabeth Haycock (Birmingham, England) went 77-76-76=229 to finish fifth just five strokes back.

Junior Kimberley Bradbury (DerbyShire, England) tied for 13 after shooting 76 in the final round to finish at 234. Fellow junior Gemma Fuster (Barcelona, Spain) tied for 23rd and freshman Lauren Eklund (Charlottesville, VA.) tied for 35th.

Morrell, a three-time All-Conference selection led the tournament in par four scoring at 4.07 (plus 2), while Haycock was fourth at 4.20 (plus 6). Morrell tied for the lead with eight birdies with Gemma Fuster tied for seventh with six. Haycock was second in the tournament with 38 pars.

As a team, ODU led the event in par four scoring at 4.34 (plus 51) and in par five scoring at 5.18 (plus 11). The lady Monarchs had 152 total pars which ranked second.

Thus far this season, ODU has taken second at Towson, third at Penn State and East Carolina's tournaments. ODU competes in the Fighting Camels Fall Classic Oct. 22 and 23.
