PINEHURST, NC-- ODU freshman Samantha Morrell (North Kingstown, RI.) shot 70 in the final round to finish tied for third at the Pinehurst Fall Challenge.

She finished just two strokes behind the medalist, Lucia Fernandez of Jacksonville State. Morrell shot 76 in the first round,but today she and Kathy Boehm of Charleston had the lowest round of the tournament to finish at 146.

Morrell tied for third with Olivia Higins of Charleston Southern, Desiree Karlsson of Western Carolina and Kathy Boehm of Charleston.

As a team, ODU tied for eighth with Jacksonville State at 618. The Lady Monarchs shot 302 in the final round, which was 14 strokes better than the first round.

College of Charleston won the event with a 584, followed by Western Carolina at 592. Laura Holmes (Co. Mayo, Ireland) shot 78 today to finish at 154 for 27th, and Kristen Hagan (Charlotte, NC.) shot 75 to finish at 156 for 35th.

Morrell tied for fifth in Par 4 scoring at 4.10. She tied for fifth in total pars with 24 with teammate Kriten Hagan. As a team, ODU was seventh in par 4 scoring at 4.43 and was fifth in total pars with 105.
