ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Old Dominion University Women's Lacrosse team dropped their fourth consecutive game on Wednesday afternoon as they were held to a season-low five goals in a 19-5 loss to Navy at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
After sticking with Navy (9-1) early through the first half, the Midshipmen went on a 7-0 run over a 12-minute span to seize control of the contest. The ODU offense stalled in the second half, scoring just one goal as the Lady Monarchs were outshot in the game, 32-16.
Five different Lady Monarchs scored on Wednesday as a total of nine different players have scored on the year and five ODU players have more than 5 goals apiece. The two teams exchanged goals early as sophomore midfielder Emily Austerberry and senior midfielder Sarah Wright each found the back of the net.
After the Mids seven unanswered goals, senior midfielder Lisa Bernardini and senior attacker Rebecca Reymann each scored late, but Navy responded with a pair of goals of their own to take an eight-goal advantage into the half, 12-4.
Navy controlled the second half as they outscored ODU, 7-1. The lone Lady Monarch goal came from senior midfielder Rebecca Hartrum midway through the period. Both senior Sarah Geary and freshman Karen Hayde saw action in goal for ODU (1-4) in the game. Old Dominion has now been outscored, 64-36, in their four-game skid.
Leading the way for the Mids, who have now won nine consecutive games, was freshman attacker Lauren Generi and junior midfielder Kathy Young, who each scored four goals in the game. Elaina Ponchione recorded four saves and picked up the win in goal for Navy.
Old Dominion now returns home for three of their next four contests beginning Saturday when they host Saint Joseph’s at noon at the Powhatan Sports Complex. No. 2 North Carolina then visits Norfolk on Sunday with first draw slated for 1 p.m.
