Norfolk, VA-The seventeenth-ranked ODU women's lacrosse squad came from behind to defeat the visiting Temple Owls 9-8 in overtime this afternoon. ODU improves to 5-2 overall with the win while Temple slips to 1-3.

In a game played in steady rain and wind, the Lady Monarchs overcame a one-goal halftime deficit and then hung on for the win against a Temple squad that kept clawing back.

After fighting back to take a 7-5 lead in the second half, ODU watched as the Owls rallied for two goals in the final ten minutes of regulation to force an extra session.

ODU sophomore Janine Rodriguez (Davidsonville, MD) and junior Danielle Hensil (Havertown, PA) provided the winning points in overtime, ensuring their would be no sudden death period.

Rodriguez finished the afternoon with three goals and one assist. Sophomore Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, PA) and junior Marlaine Smith (Gaithersburg, MD) netted two scores each.

Temple held a 21-15 advantage in shots and 23-20 edge in ground balls, but the Owls were plagued by foul problems all afternoon, with six different players receiving yellow cards.

Old Dominion will travel to CAA foe George Mason for the next game on March 20.
