March 30, 2002

NORFOLK, VA -- Despite racing out to an early 2-0 lead the #18 Old Dominion women's lacrosse team fell 10-4 to #3 Loyola (MD) in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action this afternoon in the final home game of the 2002 season at Foreman Field. The Lady Monarchs fall to 8-4 on the season and 3-2 in the CAA, while the Greyhounds improve to 7-1 and 4-0 in conference play.

The Lady Monarchs quickly established a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the game on two goals by the nation's leader in points in sophomore Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoniexville, VA). A mere two minutes later, Loyola broke onto the scoreboard with a goal by Stacey Morlang and then proceeded to tie the game at 2-2 on an unassisted tally by Talia Shacklock with 21:11 remaining the half. A see-saw battle ensued on the field until Loyola's Suzanne Eyler reached the back of the Lady Monarch net for a 3-2 lead with 12:55 in the half. Senior Jennifer Heister (Fayetteville, NY) tied the game back up, 3-3, on an unassisted goal at 8:45. Eyler, on her second consecutive goal, gave Loyola a 4-3 edge at the half.

The Greyhounds outscored Old Dominion 6-1 in the second half, including five unanswered tallies to open up play. Krissy Warnock used back-to-back goals, which included the game-winner, and Eyler scored twice, bringing her total to four goals on the afternoon, as Loyola established an 8-3 lead with 22:20 remaining. The Greyhounds would score once more, Morlang with the assist to Christy McNew, before the Lady Monarchs finally registered a goal in the second stanza. Junior Danielle Hensil (Havertown, PA) netted the lone Old Dominion goal with 9:23 left on an assist from Heister. Jen Schuerholz closed out the game for Loyola with the final goal of the game with 4:38 remaining on the clock.

In net, Greyhound netminder Tricia Dabrowski was able to stop 14 Old Dominion shots on net, while Lady Monarch keeper Beth O'Leary (Manlius, NY) made 13 saves in net.

Eyler led Loyola with four points on four goals, while the Lady Monarchs each got two points from Wosczyna (two goals) and Heister (one goal, one assist).

The Lady Monarchs return to action on Tuesday, April 2 in a conference contest with William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA at 4:00 p.m.
