Women's Lacrosse Ranked In Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Poll
Jan. 18, 2002 NORFOLK, VA -- The 2002 edition of the Old Dominion women's lacrosse team was ranked 18th in Lacrosse Magazine's annual poll of the nation's collegiate coaches. Defending national champion Maryland received the top spot, while Duke and Princeton place second and third respectively.
The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team returns 17 letterwinners and nine starters back tot the field in 2002. Returning will be the team's top two leading scores in junior midfielder Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, PA) and senior Jennifer Heister (Fayetteville, NY). Wosczyna led all Lady Monarchs in both points (60) and goals scored (48), while Heister recorded 44 points on 36 goals and eight assists. Seven of the Lady Moanrch's adversaries this season are ranked among the Top 20 in the poll, including Loyola (5th), Virginia (7th), James Madison (8th), William and Mary (13th), Hofstra (15th), Delaware (19th), and Boston University (20th).
The Lady Monarchs open the 2002 season at American on Saturday, March 2nd. Their home opener on Foreman Field will take place on Saturday, March 9th against CAA newcomer Delaware.
