NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's lacrosse team opens their season at home on Tuesday night in what also will be their CAA opener against rival William and Mary at 7 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex as part of the annual Optima Health Challenge.
On the call for Monarch Media will be Ted Alexander on play-by-play while former ODU defensive standout and team captain Brooke Thomas, now Brooke Hummel (married to ODU Baseball Hall of Famer Tim Hummel) will provide color commentary.
ODU (0-2) is coming off a 21-3 loss at Louisville on Saturday. The Lady Monarchs will look to get on track against the Tribe (1-2) who is coming off a 21-8 loss at home to No. 13 Ohio State last Wednesday.
Sophomore midfielder Ashmore Standing leads the team with four goals while senior attacker Meredith Rogers has added three goals and an assist to go along with four draw controls. Senior midfielder Shelby Davis leads the team with seven ground balls.
The Tribe are led by senior attacker Kyrstin Mackrides and her 11 goals while junior attacker Taelor Salmon has added eight goals and a pair of asssits. Senior midfield captain Katie Stillwell has earned a team-best 10 draws and and scooped up seven groundballs while junior goalkeeper Colleen Nofi has allowed 40 goals in three gaves and collected 31 saves.
William and Mary holds a 31-11 advantage in the all-time series but Old Dominion won their last meeting in 2012 in Williamsburg behind a strong second half come back to win, 14-10.
