NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's lacrosse team returns home on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they host American University at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Old Dominion (1-4) is coming off a 23-7 loss at Richmond on Tuesday. The Lady Monarchs have started the season with four of their first five games away from home. Their lone victory came on Feb. 26 against rival William and Mary, 15-9. American (0-5) is still searching for their first win. The Eagles were scheduled to host Towson on Wednesday but snow in the Washington, D.C. area forced a postponement. In their last contest, AU fell at George Mason, 14-10, on Monday.
The Lady Monarchs are led offensively by sophomore midfielder Ashmore Standing who has a team-leading 10 goals along with two assists while junior attacker Emily Austerberry has added seven goals and two assists. Senior attacker Meredith Rogers leads the team with three assists and is tied for third in goals with six along with sophomore midfielder Christina Rea who also has a team-high 13 draws. Defensively, junior Kallie McCormick leads the team with nine caused turnovers while senior Carolyn Burns leads all players with 14 groundballs. In goal for ODU, sophomore Karen Hayde has 36 saves on the year while allowing 87 goals.
For American, junior midfielder Emily Maher leads the way in just about every category with 10 goals, five assists along with 21 draws, five causted turnovers and 13 groundballs. Senior attacker Alex Lugovina leads the team with 13 goals while senior attacker Kimberly Collins has added 10 goals and four assists. In goal, freshman Teal Harrison has 38 saves and 79 goals allowed.
ODU is 18-3 all-time against American, but all three losses have come in the past three years including last season's 16-10 defeat in Washington, D.C. to the Eagles.
