Kelly Kimener Named WomensLacrosse.com All-American

NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior midfielder and 2009 CAA Player of the Year Kelly Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) was named a Third Team All-American by WomensLacrosse.com today, becoming just the eighth Lady Monarch women's lacrosse All-American in school history. She is the first since Suzanne Wosczyna in 2004 to earn the esteemed honor. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sarah Geary (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) also was named to the National All-Rookie Team according to the website. Kimener, captain of the Lady Monarchs in 2009 and First Team All-CAA midfielder, was the driving force behind one of the best offenses in the league. She scored a team-high 59 points on 44 goals and 15 assists. She also led the team in draw controls with 32 and was among the team leaders in caused turnovers (23) and ground balls (25). Her presence in the ODU midfield helped lead the team to its third best winning percentage in school history, totaling 11 wins with just five losses. She now ranks fourth all-time in career points (166), goals (125) and assists (41) after posting career bests in each category. Geary, a rookie between the pipes for ODU, was named the CAA Rookie of the Year, the All-CAA Second Team netminder and to the All-Conference All-Rookie Team. WomensLacrosse.com listed her as one of the country's elite first year players after Geary posted an 11-5 overall record in her first season. She played all but 30 minutes in the cage for Old Dominion, posting a 10.06 goals against average and an impressive .502 save percentage on 415 shots faced. She led the team in ground balls with 51, and ranked eighth in the nation. She ranked among the nation's top ten in save percentage, saves per game and goals against average. ODU reached the postseason for the second time in three years as head coach Sue Stahl earned her fifth CAA Coach of the Year honors.
