NORFOLK, Va. -- The Lady Monarchs lacrosse team welcomes Alyssa Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) to an already impressive incoming class of recruits. Dragon, sister of current Monarch wrestler Roy, will join a class of six others as rookies in 2008-09. She joins Mary Bermingham (Annandale, Va.), Rebecca Hartrum (Springfield, Pa.), Cory Johnson (Ellicott City, Md.), Hannah McBee (Middletown, Md.), Rebecca Reymann (Catonsville, Md.) and Sarah Wright (Cazenovia, N.Y.).

Dragon was a 1st Team All-American her senior year and Honorable Mention All-American her junior season. The three-time All-New Jersey athlete finished her career with a stellar 274 goals and 148 assists, including two seasons with 90+ goals scored. She earned All-Area Player of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons and was 1st Team All-Conference, All-County, and All-Area in three straight years.

"Alyssa is a very dynamic player. She will be a great addition to our team and lacrosse program. Alyssa is a strong competitor with terrific speed in the midfield and a strong desire to score," said assistant coach Heather Holt. "We are looking forward to working with Alyssa and helping her grow into a dominant Division I player."

The Bridgewater-Raritan midfielder comes to ODU one year after her brother Roy joined the Monarchs wrestling program as a freshman. She led her team to the NJSIAA North Group IV Championship and was named the Somerset County Tournament MVP her senior year.
