Final Fall Competition at the Rivanna Romp
Nov. 13, 2011
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's rowing team finished up the fall portion of its schedule at the Rivanna Romp showing again the strides the program has made in its fourth varsity season.
Adding to the list of top rowing programs the Lady Monarchs have faced this fall, ODU competed against a pair of schools that competed at last year's NCAA championship - Virginia and Clemson - as well as Pennsylvania, a school that finished sixth at EAWRC Sprints last season.
While a broken fin on the Lady Monarchs' top varsity eight boat unfortunately was not able to be fixed, the varsity eight B boat came in seventh against the tough competition. It also marked a big leap from last year's performance by the eights at the Romp. Last season, the Lady Monarchs' top boat finished in eighth place, while this year's Lady Monarch B boat placed seventh.
The women's novice eight meanwhile took third finishing ahead of both Clemson boats in the race.
In the women's 4+, Old Dominion placed fifth ahead of the two top boats from Penn and edged out the B boat from Virginia.
"I cannot say enough about how this team competed this fall," said head coach Dan Garbutt. "Overall, its been a great fall and we cannot wait for what the spring of 2012 will bring."
