NORFOLK, VA--Janna Pearson (Haymarket, VA.) and Ashley Kukura (Virginia Beach, Va.) both scored goals to lead the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion to a 2-1 pre-season exhibition win over American University Saturday afternoon.

Pearson opened the scoring with 11:01 left in the first half when she got the rebound off her first shot which was blocked by AU keeper Kelsey Wiggins and pushed It in to give ODU a 1-0 lead. In the second half Ashley Kukura got a pass from freshman Victoria Johnson (Norfolk, Va.) for the Lady Monarchs second score of the day.

American got on the board as Kelsey Brasher hit one into the left corner with 26:42 left in the match.

In goal, senior Lauren Tupman (Virginia Beach, Va. )played the first 62 minutes of shutout ball with four saves. Fellow Lady Monarch senior keeper Colby Owen (Virginia Beach, VA.) played the final 28 minutes with one save.

The Lady Monarchs open the regular season on Aug. 22 at High Point University (NC.). Game time is 7 p.m.
