Post-Game Recap:

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's soccer received goals from Ashlee Coutu and Taylor Mertz and a career-best 11 saves from Laura Bush as the Lady Monarchs upended Drexel 2-1 Thursday evening at the ODU soccer Stadium.

ODU (3-11, 1-5) got on the board in the eighth minute when Nikki Clarke sent a long pass down the middle to Coutu who beat a Drexel defender and beat the keeper to the right for her fifth goal of the season to put ODU on top 1-0.

Drexel (10-3-2,4-2-1) outshot ODU 6-3 in the first frame but Bush made four saves and some solid defense from the Lady Monarchs kept the score 1-0 at halftime.

Just 11 minutes after halftime ODU got on the board again as Kelly Evans sent in a cross from the right side that Mertz got a foot on past the Drexel keeper to the right side to give ODU a 2-0 lead.

Drexel kept on the attack and in the 61st minute broke through as Courtney Wylie sent in a corner kick that Sam Greenfield got a head on that was stopped by Bush, but Greenfield hung with in and put in her own rebound to make the score 2-1.

The Dragons continued the attack but Bush and ODU were up to the task, as Bush made eight second half saves, while Sara Brock came up back with a team save on a Drexel shot from Wylie with under four minutes to go that kept the final score ODU 2-1.

The victory snaps a seven game losing streak and gives ODU their first conference win off the season.

Old Dominion returns to action this Sunday, Oct. 14 in Newark, Del. at 1 p.m. where they will take on Delaware.
