Richmond, VA (Sept. 26) - James Madison and William & Mary won non conference games Sunday, while #10 Richmond came up short against #23 Stanford.
James Madison Upends Maryland, 2-1
The Dukes (6-3) scored twice in the second half to earn a 2-1 comeback win over Maryland (3-5-1) Sunday in College Park, MD. Senior Aimee Grahe tied the game in the 64th minute off a cross from Beth McNamara, and freshman Meredith McClure scored the game-winner on a header in the 73rd minute for JMU. Beth McNamara also assisted on McClure's game-winning goal. Dukes' goalie Suzanne Wilson made five saves to record the win. James Madison will open its CAA schedule on Wednesday, hosting American University.
#10 Richmond Falls to #23 Stanford, 8-1
The Spiders (6-2-1) fell to Stanford (5-3) 8-1 in their final game of the Coca-Cola Classic at the University of Virginia Sunday. Courtney Ficken scored Richmond's lone goal in the 82nd minute. The Spiders look to get back on track Wednesday when they battle CAA foe George Mason in Fairfax, VA. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
William & Mary Blanks New Mexico, 2-0
The Tribe (7-2, 3-0) used second half goals from Jordan Krieger and Lindsay Nohl to defeat New Mexico (3-6-1) 2-0 Sunday in the final game of the adidas/Spartan Classic at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. The Tribe out shot New Mexico 11-3 for the game, with Missy Wycinsky recording five shots. Goalkeeper Michelle Horbaly made only one save to earn the shutout win. William & Mary returns to action October 2 when they visit the University of Maryland.
