McGovern's Goal Lifts Women's Soccer Past UNC-Wilmington, 1-0
Wilmington, NC (Oct. 6) - Junior forward Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ) scored off a corner kick with 12 minutes remaining to help the Lady Monarchs defeat UNC-Wilmington, 1-0, on Oct. 6. Old Dominion improves to 8-5 overall, 2-2 CAA. The Seahawks fall to 6-7-0, 0-3 CAA. The Lady Monarchs outshot UNCW 10-6, but had a difficult time getting past Seahawk goalie Meghan Fitzsimmons, who registered 6 saves in the loss. Old Dominion goalie Tonya Dedmond(North Potomac, MD) made three saves while picking up her first shutout of the season. The Lady Monarchs will return to action on Sunday, October 8, when they host Rutgers at 1 p.m.
