Women's Soccer Knocks Off Rutgers, 5-3
Norfolk, VA (Oct. 8) - The Old Dominion women's soccer team scored four straight second half goals en route to a 5-3 win over visiting Rutgers on Oct. 8. The Lady Monarchs improve to 9-5 while Rutgers drops to 6-6-2 on the year. Rutgers took a 2-0 lead before Old Dominion could get on the board. With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ) scored the Lady Monarch's first goal of the day off an assist from Lauren Rafal (Va. Beach, VA). Still down by one goal after the half, Old Dominion erupted with four straight goals to ice the game. Jen Henley (Chalfont, PA) tallied three and McGovern would add one more in the Lady Monarch's scoring frenzy. Rutgers' pulled within 5-3 after a Shannon Evans' goal, but would get no closer in the final minutes. The Lady Monarchs outshot the Scarlet Knights 15-11, and held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. Old Dominion goalie Tonya Dedmond (North Potomac, MD) collected four saves in the win. The Lady Monarchs will return to action on Oct. 10 when they travel to Virginia Commonwealth for a CAA showdown.
