DURHAM, NC (Oct. 13) - Sarah Pickens goal with 6:37 left in the match lifted ninth ranked Duke University to a 2-1 victory over Old Dominion University Oct. 13 in a non-conference women's soccer match. Duke is now 11-3, while the Lady Monarchs drop to 10-6

Old Dominion took a 1-0 lead as Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ.) scored on an assist from Jen Henley (Chalfont, Pa.) with 29 minutes left in the first half. ODU held that lead until 15:37 left in the match when Susan Krueger scored on a cross from Gwendolyn Oxenham to tie the match. Oxenham assisted on the game winner as her cross was headed in by Pickens.

Duke outshot the Lady Monarchs, 27-7. Lady Monarch goalkeeper Tonya Dedmond (North Potamac, MD.) came up with eight saves. Old Dominion returns to action on Sunday when they host American at 1 p.m. Should ODU win, head coach Joe Pereira will pick up his 200th career collegiate win.
