Lady Monarchs Defeat American, 3-0; Pereira Collects win No. 200
Norfolk, VA (Oct. 15, 2000) - The Old Dominion women's soccer team defeated visiting American University this afternoon, 3-0. Old Dominion improves to 11-6 overall, 4-2 CAA. The Eagles fall to 2-10-2. Junior forward Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ) scored twice for the Lady Monarchs, who outshot the Eagles 19-9. McGovern, who has scored 6 goals in the last three games, currently leads the team with 16 goals. Also contributing to the win today were Sarah Hirst (Va. Beach, VA), Diane Baucom (Va. Beach, VA), and Jen Henley (Chalfont, PA). Hirst scored her first goal of the season while Henley and Baucom had four assists between them. Lady Monarch head coach Joe Pereira collected career win #200, and has registered 56 wins at the helm of Old Dominion. The Lady Monarchs will try to deliver win #201 when they host CAA foe George Mason on Friday, October 20.
