NORFOLK, VA (Oct. 16, 2000) -- Junior forward Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ) has been named the CAA women's soccer player of the week for her performances over a three game stretch. McGovern netted a total of 6 goals against VCU, #9 Duke, and American. Melanie scored 3 goals against VCU and 2 goals against American, both Old Dominion wins. Against the ninth-ranked Blue Devils, McGovern put the Lady Monarchs in the lead with a first-half goal, but Duke escaped with a 2-1 win.

McGovern is currently tied for first in team scoring with 16 goals and 2 assists for 34 points. With her two goal performance against American, Melanie broke Old Dominion's single season record for most goals, passing the old mark of 14 set by current teammate Jen Henley (Chalfont, PA) in 1998. She is also tied with Henley for first in career goals at ODU and is currently tied for first in scoring with Henley in the CAA The Lady Monarchs are currently 11-6, 4-2 CAA. They are in second place in the CAA behind William & Mary, and two of their remaining three games are against conference opponents.
