Murray, Rowe, Lead Lady Monarchs Over American, 2-0
WASHINGTON, DC (October 24) -- Senior defender Kristen Murray (Wappingers Falls, NY) scored a goal and assisted on another, while sophomore defender Andi Rowe (Fairfax, VA) connected on her second goal of the season to lead Old Dominion to a 2- 0 victory over CAA-foe American. With the win, Old Dominion improves to 8-8-0 overall, 3-5-0 in the CAA, as American drops to 8-7-0 overall, 1-5-0 in the CAA.
Murray put the Lady Monarchs on the board early, as she collected a loose ball and blasted in the shot from five yards out in the sixth minute. The lead held at 1-0 for ODU going into the half, though American had its opportunities, outshooting the Lady Monarchs 6-3.
In the second half, Rowe took a short cross from Murray and blasted it into the back of the net in the 78th minute to put the lead at 2-0. That was all that it took for the Lady Monarchs, as American fired off four more shots in the second half but was unable to convert.
Sophomore goalkeepers Alison Kinsler (Virginia Beach, VA) and Tonya Dedmond (North Potomac, MD) combined for the shutout for the Lady Monarchs.
Old Dominion finishes out the 1999 regular season at home on Saturday, October 30, as the team squares off against in-state rival Radford at 3:00 pm at the Old Dominion Soccer Stadium.
