VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (November 4) -- The sixth-seeded Old Dominion Lady Monarchs (10-8-0) take on seventh-seeded Richmond (12-8-1) on Friday night at 7:30 pm at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in the women's CAA soccer tournament semi-finals. The Lady Monarchs have never lost to Richmond and defeated the Lady Spiders, 3-2, earlier this season in Richmond.

Old Dominion advanced to the semi-finals after shutting out #3 East Carolina, 2-0. Senior defender Kristen Murray (Wappingers Falls, NY) and sophomore forward Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ) each scored goals in the win.

Meanwhile, Richmond advanced to the semi's for the second straight season after knocking off #2 James Madison, 2-1. It marked the fourth time in four years that the two schools had met in the quarterfinal round of the tournament, with Richmond taking the last two.

Earlier this season, the Lady Monarchs scored three first-half goals to top Richmond, 3-2, at the UR Soccer Complex. The win was the third in a row over the Lady Spiders for ODU, which also owns a 4-0-1 all-time record in the series.

The Lady Monarchs will be led by All CAA senior midfielder Jessalyn Martin (Richmond, VA) and All CAA sophomore defender Andi Rowe (Fairfax, VA), along with leading scorer Melanie McGovern, who has eight goals and 16 points this season. Richmond is led by CAA Defender of the Year Jaclyn Raveia and All CAA performers in Brooke Sands, Kirsi Cronk and Nicole Froman.

Tournament action begins at 5:00 pm at #5 UNC Wilmington (11-6-1) takes on #1 seed and 13th-ranked William and Mary (16-3-0). Old Dominion students are admitted free with a student ID, while all other tickets are $6. Contact the Virginia Beach Sportsplex at (757) 430-8873 for ticket information.
