Women's Tennis Falls To Terps, 5-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md - The University of Maryland women's tennis team edged Old Dominion, 5-2, at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Terps improved to 3-0 on the season, while the Lady Monarchs fell to 1-2 on the young dual meet season. The Terps jumped on the board first, notching two out of the three doubles matches. At No. 1 singles, the team of junior co-captain Emily Marker Romona But defeated the Lady Monarchs' Nataly Cahana (Quriat Balik, Israel) and Maretha Van Niekerk, 8-5. The tandem of senior co-captain Marta Jedrzejak and Chavardes also notched a 8-2 doubles win over Kerstin Endlich and Verena Munzinger. The second doubles duo of Julia Sotiriu (Wendlestein, Germany) and Coralie Herrmann picked up the lone Lady Monarch doubles win with a 9-7 decision over Andreea Fusea and Jennifer Dent. Cahana and Van Niekerk recorded wins in singles play. Cahana blanked the Terps' Emily Marker 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while van Niekerk picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Marta Jedrzejak at No. 3 singles. At No. 2 singles But downed Endlich in two sets, 7-6, 6-2. Dent won over Julia Sotiriu after a second set tie-breaker, 7-5, 7-6 at No. 4 singles. Fusea and Chavardes then locked the win for Maryland at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots. Fusea handed Coralie Herrman a 6-1, 6-0 loss at No. 5 singles and Chavardes defeated Munzinger, 6-1, 7-6(7-2) at No. 6 singles. Match Summary
