Women's Tennis Shuts Out UMBC at Home, 7-0

NORFOLK, Va. -- Junior Nadine Fahoum, ranked 18th in the country, won her 30th match of the year as she led ODU to a 7-0 win over UMBC on Sunday, improving the Lady Monarchs to 11-5 overall this season. Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) did not lose a game in her No. 1 singles victory over the Retrievers Carmen Jackman, winning 6-0, 6-0. She is now 30-4 overall this season, including a 15-1 mark in dual matches. ODU won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Fahoum paired with rookie Juliana Pires for an 8-2 win at No. 1, Joanna Dobrowolska and Irina Dementyeva played at No. 2 and won 8-2, while Marija Citic and Diana Ivanova paired for an 8-7 (6) win at No. 3. All six Lady Monarchs would go on to win their singles matches as well, as Citic halted a four-match slide while Dementyeva and Ivanova each won their 19th matches of the season. Citic dropped UMBC's Kyri Hadji by a final of 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles, Dementyeva played Emily Mannix at No. 3 and won 6-3, 6-1, and Ivanova defeated Heidi Danielsson at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1 ODU will return to action this Saturday, March 13, as they take on the VCU Rams at 1:00 p.m. in CAA action.
