Women's Tennis Defeats Virginia Tech, 5-2

BLACKSBURG, VA -- The Old Dominion women's tennis team improved to 5-6 on the year as they defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies, 5-2, on Friday afternoon. The Lady Monarchs took two of the three doubles matches to earn the point. The duo of senior Nataly Cahana and freshman Maretha van Niekerk posted an 8-6 victory over the Hokies' Kristen Stubbs and Felice Lam at No. 1 doubles, while freshmen Kerstin Endlich and Verena Munzinger used an 8-6 match to record a win at No. 3 doubles over Zdenka Videnova and Elissa Kinard. Old Dominion won four of the six singles matches. Cahana and Endlich each registered straight set wins for the Lady Monarchs. Cahana earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles over Kristen Stubbs, while Endlich had a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Virginia Tech's Elissa Kinard. Freshman Maretha van Niekerk used a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, decision over Carolyn Kramer at No. 2 singles, while classmate Verena Munzinger closed out the Old Dominion win with a 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 win at No. 6 singles over Zdenka Videnova.
