Women's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision To Undefeated #18 Virginia Commonwealth

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- The Old Dominion women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to #18 Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday afternoon. The loss saw Old Dominion's record fall to 16-8 overall and 4-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, meanwhile the Rams improved to a perfect 21-0 overall. Despite the loss, the Lady Monarchs' Fernanda Luiz (Nova Lima, Brazil) picked up an upset at No. 3 singles. The second-year Lady Monarch edged out #102 Viktoria Konstantinova, 6-4, 6-2 to pick up the victory. Also earning a singles win for Old Dominion was Larissa Santos (Florianopolis, Brazil), who posted a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (2) victory over the Rams' Vera Petrashevitch at No. 5 singles. A Lady Monarch doubles team also recorded a win despite the doubles point going to the Rams. The duo of Barbara Costa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Barbara Kerner (Herxheim, Germany) emerged with an 8-7(5) win over Viktoria Konstantinova and Ripert at No. 3 doubles
