Lady Monarch Tennis Cruises To Victory In Season Finale

NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion women's tennis team closed out the 2002 regular season with a 6-1 non-conference victory over Virginia Tech this afternoon. The win improves the Lady Monarchs to 13-9 on the season.
Old Dominion captured all three doubles matches to win the points. Teammates Nataly Cahana and Ana Radeljevic played to a 8-3 win at first singles, while Mily Kannarkat and Julia Sotiriu used a 8-5 win over their opponent at second singles. Lara van Rooyen and Patricia Araujo teammed for a 8-4 win at third doubles. The Lady Monarchs gave up just one singles match on the afternoon. Ninth ranked Nataly Cahana (Quirat Balik, Israel) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at first single, while Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia) overpowered her opponent 6-1, 6-3. At third singles, Lara van Rooyen (Pretoria, South Africa) emerged with a 6-2, 6-2 win and fourth singles member Mily Kannarkat (Va Beach, VA) played to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Julia Sotiriu (Wendelstein, Germany) dropped the lone ODU match of the day, falling 6-2, 7-5 at fifth singes. Patrica Araujo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) rounded out the competition losing just one set on her way to a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
