Charlottesville, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s tennis team wrapped up play at the UVA Invitational on Sunday and it turned out to be a rough day for the Lady Monarchs who went a combined 3-5.

In singles play the Lady Monarchs got victories from Joanna Dobrowolska and Irina Dementyeva as ODU went 2-3 overall. Dobrowolska defeated Mihaela Buena of VCU in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, while Dementyeva blanked Pender Sessoms of North Carolina State 6-0, 6-0.

On the doubles courts ODU’s sole victory came when Dobrowolska and Margarita Spicin earned an 8-3 win over North Carolina State’s team of Kristen Bleakley and Neils Barringer. The Lady Monarchs dropped their other two doubles matches to end the day 1-3.

ODU returns to action next weekend when the Lady Monarchs the Hampton Roads Open Tournament at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
