WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- The women's tennis team duo of Lara van Rooyen (Pretoria, South Africa) and Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia) advanced to the final in Flight A doubles competition at the William and Mary Invitational held in Williamsburg, VA. Schools participating in the invite included Arizona, Boston College, Marshall, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Richmond, Temple, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.

The tandem opened play with an 8-4 win over Jeannette Cluskey/Patty Devlin of Richmond and advanced with an 8-2 victory against Pennsylvania's Sanela Kunovac/Rachel Shweky. Van Rooyen and Radeljevic advanced to the championship game by defeating Anna Mitina/Alice Sukner of Marshall, 8-2, before facing Janet Bergman/Dea Dielik of Wake Forest, ranked second in the nation according to the ITA pre-season rankings, in the championship game.

Both Van Rooyen and Radeljevic participated at the singles level as well. Van Rooyen, ranked 90th in the country in the ITA's pre-season rankings, lost her first round match to Danira Penic of Temple (6-2, 2-6, 7-5), but rebounded with a win against Marshall's Jessica Johnson (6-4, 5-7, 6-2) in the consolation bracket. Van Rooyen closed out singles play with a loss to Arizona's Maja Mlakar in the consolation bracket in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.

Radeljevic, who ranks 87th on the ITA pre-season list, advanced to the semifinals of "Mary" Flight Singles action. She recorded straight set victories over Nida Wassem of Boston College (6-1, 6-1) in the first round and Emily Marker of Maryland (6-4, 6-3) to reach the semifinal game. Arizona's Marie-Pier Pouliot halted Radeljevic's advance with a 6-4, 6-3 win over the Lady Monarch.

The Lady Monarch women's tennis team will return to action this weekend in the UPenn Invitational in Philadelphia, PA.
