Cahana Captures 5th Annual Cissie Leary Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Sophomore All-American Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel), the number one singles seed, captured the fifth annual Cissie Leary Invitational singles title held by the University of Pennsylvania this weekend. Additionally the tandem of Cahana and senior Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia) joined forces to capture the doubles title.
Cahana defeated 12th seeded Erica Fisk of Ohio State in convincing fashion with a 6-2, 6-0 win to capture the invitational title. Throughout the weekend, Cahana gave up no more than two games in a match en route to the title, winning all five of her matches in straight sets.
In other singles action, sophomore Lara van Rooyen (Pretoria, South Africa) advanced to the semi-finals of the invitational before dropping her match to Fisk, the eventual runner-up. Van Rooyen had defeated 13th seeded Sadhaf Pervez of Ohio State (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) to advance to the semi-final round. Fifth seeded Ana Radeljevic proceeded to the third round of play, dropping a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 match to ninth seeded Jeanette Clusky of Richmond.
The first seeded duo of Cahana and Radeljevic teamed up to capture the doubles title with an 8-6 over Ohio State's second seeded pair of Monica Ricon and Erica Fisk.
The Lady Monarch tennis team returns to action on their home court in Norfolk, VA as Old Dominion will host the East Coast Championships beginning on Friday, October 5th. Competition will last through Sunday, October 7th .
