NORFOLK, VA -- All three Lady Monarch women's tennis singles players advanced to the next round in the first day of play at the East Coast Collegiate Championships held at Old Dominion University.

Sophomore All-American Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) received a first round bye and advanced to the semi-final round giving up just one game to George Washington's Nazia Genscoy (6-0, 6-1) in Flight A action. Julia Sotiriu (Wendelstein, Germany) was successful in both her match-ups in day one action in Flight B. The junior, who gave up just three games all afternoon, defeated UNC-Pembroke's Chrstine Orban (6-2, 6-3) and George Washington's Sevia Gonca (6-1, 6-2) on her way to the semi-finals. Senior Patricia Araujo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) also reached the semi-final round with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Naomi Ellis of UNC-Pembroke in Flight C.

The doubles duo of Araujo and Lara van Rooyen (Pretoria, South Africa) were also in action with a 8-2 victory in Flight A over George Washington's Natasha Bode and Tracey Wei. They will continue tomorrow in the semi-final round.
