INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Former Lady Monarch tennis player, Mily Kannarkat (Va Beach, VA) was awarded one of 58 spring sport postgraduate scholarships by the NCAA. The NCAA annually awards postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes who have excelled academically and athletically and who are in their last year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade point average of 3.200 (4.000 scale) and must have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which the student-athlete was nominated.

Kannarkat excelled both on the court and in the classroom in her four years with the Lady Monarch tennis program. Finishing her career with a 3.97 as a pre-med/biology major, Kannarkat was a two-time Verizon Academic All-American (Third Team) and a three-time ITA Academic All-American. She has also previously been named an Arthur Ashe Scholar-Athlete as well as Old Dominion's Jack Wilkins/James Howard Memorial Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2001.

The 2002 women's tennis team Most Valuable Player and Second Team All-CAA honoree Kannarkat opened the 2001-02 season with a top 32 finished at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. She went on to close out her final year as a Lady Monarch with a 15-5 dual meet record, which included a 12-1 mark at fourth singles and victories in 13 of her last 14 matches.
