ODU Cheerleading
The Old Dominion University cheering squad is a safe, professional and athletic program. The squad is comprised of student-athletes who are committed to one another and to promoting spirit within and outside of the university. The squad performs at all football home games. In addition, the cheerleaders perform at all men's and women's basketball home games. Throughout the year, the Monarch cheerleaders also perform for additional sporting events, appear at public events and school functions and travel for CUSA and/or NCAA tournaments. To become a member of the Cheerleading Squad each member must have at least a 2.0 GPA. Every member is also required to complete workouts two times a week with the Athletic Strength and Conditioning Staff. Cheer practice will be held at least three days a week. All incoming freshmen intending to tryout must not register for night classes and must have Monday, Tuesday and Thursday free from 6:00 - 9:00PM (only exceptions will be graduating seniors on case by case basis). All cheerleaders are required to actively participate in any and all fundraising efforts for the Spirit Squad Program. For the 2013-2014 season additional practices will be added throughout the week at selected times in preparation for the UCA National Collegiate Competition held in Orlando, FL. 2013 SPRING OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS DATES:

Cheer participants who are chosen to become members of the ODU Cheer Program, must be available for all summer practices, camps and workouts. For additional information or unable to attend tryouts, video submissions are accepted. However all video submissions must be received by 5:00PM on May 13, 2013. The famed mascot of ODU is "Big Blue." This crowned Monarch is present at all homes games for fans to enjoy. Big Blue is always ready for pictures and entertainment before and during the games. Throughout the year, Big Blue attends special coordinated events throughout the community. Big Blue is available for grand openings, public school events, birthday parties and promotional activities. ODU cheerleaders are required to maintain a 2.0 grade point average each semester he or she is enrolled as a full time student. All cheerleaders are required to participate in a strength-training program including weights and cardiovascular activity.
